CBD Serving Size For Pets

How much CBD should you give your pet? In an interview with Project CBD, Gary Richter, DVM, an integrative medicine veterinarian out of Oakland, CA considers CBD as part of a holistic approach to animal medicine. He had some great answers to our primary question, how much CBD should you give your pet.

When asked about his preferred way to administer CBD to animals, Dr. Richter says, “I prefer a liquid preparation, usually an oil. With liquids, it’s very easy to adjust the serving size. If you’re giving something like a pill or an edible, it can be difficult to figure out how to get the right amount. Furthermore, there’s every reason to believe that CBD and THC are going to be partially absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the tissues of the mouth, sublingually. If we put a liquid in an animal’s mouth, some of the medication will be absorbed directly and has a chance to be more effective.”

When it comes to serving size, Richter says, “There’s a serving size range that you could start at. It’s best to begin at the low end. Every few days, slowly increase the serving size. If you’ve achieved the desired effect for whatever is being treated, then you’re probably done.”
